Our Mission

Green Tomatoes Theatre Group’s mission is to use drama as a tool to engage and empower children and young people, so contributing to their personal development. We believe drama is an educational leveller; anyone can participate and excel, regardless of academic achievement and behavioural difficulties.

Our drama workshops are inclusive and will be accessible to children and young people who may not otherwise have this opportunity. A Green Tomatoes workshop builds confidence and self esteem, and provides a structured outlet for frustrated energy and enthusiasm.

Who do we work with?

Hereford-based Green Tomatoes Theatre Group provides participatory drama workshops for children and young people within a variety of educational and community settings. We work with
  • Primary Schools
  • Secondary Schools
  • Community Centres
  • Youth Services
  • Pupil Referral Units
  • Children's Homes
  • Youth Offending Teams
  • Other voluntary and statutory agencies

What do we do?

Green Tomatoes Theatre Group:

  • Works with you to tailor workshops to meet your individual needs
  • Uses workshop facilitators with experience in youth work, social work, community work and/or education
  • Is based in Herefordshire, and employs Performing Arts graduates with specialist skills to work alongside our facilitators
  • Is a social enterprise company, using profits to subsidise community drama projects for children and young people in Herefordshire
  • Ensures all facilitators are covered by an enhanced level CRB check
  • Uses drama as a tool to build self esteem and encourage active participation, rather than delivering a performance where children and young people are a passive audience
  • Strives to find a role for every participant, rather than training potential actors or staging polished productions

What do we offer schools?

Green Tomatoes Theatre Group can help schools to:

  • Deliver parts of the National Curriculum in new and imaginative ways (e.g. workshops exploring themes in PSHE, dealing with issues in Citizenship, improving understanding of events/experiences in History)
  • Meet two of the five priorities in Herefordshire Council’s Children and Young People’s Plan 2006-8 (Enjoying and Achieving, Making a Positive Contribution) as part of the Every Child Matters Change for Children agenda
  • Provide positive out-of-school activities in line with the DfES extended schools strategy and Every Child Matters targets
  • Promote the DfES Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) programme
  • Work towards the Arts Council’s Artsmark
  • Add to a pupil’s Record of Achievement/Progress File
  • Contribute to a young person’s Arts Award portfolio
